Program Information & Policies
The master’s candidate must demonstrate competence in mathematics, chemistry, and physics comparable to New Mexico Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Biology. In addition to the general degree requirements for the Master of Science degree at New Mexico Tech, all Biology MS students must take BIOL 5079 and BIOL 5082 during the first year of graduate study. For courses listed at both the 4000 and 5000 level, graduate students should enroll in the 5000 level course.
Master of Science in Biology
The master’s candidate must demonstrate competence in mathematics, chemistry, and physics comparable to New Mexico Tech’s Bachelor of Science in Biology. In addition to the general degree requirements for the Master of Science degree at New Mexico Tech, all Biology MS students must take BIOL 5079 and BIOL 5082 during the first year of graduate study. In addition, the following option-specific requirements must be met:
Thesis option:
●Completion of one credit hour of BIOL 5001, Graduate Seminar.
Independent Study option:
●Completion of at least 12 additional credit hours of 5000-level Biology coursework other than thesis, directed study, independent study, or seminar.
●Completion of one credit hour of BIOL 5001, Graduate seminar in Biology.
●Completion of three credit hours of BIOL 5090, Independent study.
