Program Description
The Course Requirements include:
At least 30 credit hours of upper level coursework that must include:
(i) a minimum of 12 credit hours of MTLS 500 level courses and
(ii) the 6 credit hours of outside department coursework must be selected from EMGT 501, EMGT 502, EMGT 503, EMGT 504, EMGT 505,EMGT 506, EMGT 507, EMGT 508, EMGT 509, or EMGT 510.
(iii) ME students with a BS in Materials Engineering may take an additional 6 credits of elective outside of the Materials Engineering department, for a minimum of 18 hours of MTLS coursework. ME students with a BS outside of Materials Engineering must complete 21 credit hours of MTLS coursework.Students may not use MTLS 581, Directed Study, to satisfy the coursework requirements for a Master of Engineering degree. All coursework used towards the ME degree requirements must carry a letter grade.
The student must work with his/her faculty advisor to form a course plan. Coursework to be applied towards the degree must be approved by the graduate student's advisor, chair, and the Dean of Graduate Studies
Students enrolled in the Master of Engineering program are required to take two semesters of MTLS 592. MTLS 592 cannot be used towards the ME 30 credit coursework requirements. If a student has completed their BS in Materials Engineering or affiliated field at New Mexico Tech and has at least a 3.0 GPA, the student can be accepted to the ME program without taking the GRE.
