This includes a conceptual understanding of: (a) Earth Science Concepts (e.g., Rock composition, geologic processes, surface processes, and magmatism); (b) Laboratory Methods (e.g., optical microscopy, thin section preparation, sedimentary separates, using online repositories, etc.); and (c) Field Methods (taking orientations of rocks in field areas, sampling methods for rocks, measuring stream flow, water chemistry, etc.)
Outcome
2. Students will develop skills needed for professional and research careers. These include (a) Hypothesis Development and Testing; (b) Writing and Communication of Data and Scientific Outcomes; (c) Data Analysis (including the use of online repositories); and (d) Integration of concepts
Outcome
3. Students will be able to apply the acquired skills and concepts of geology to societal problems, such as natural hazards, energy and mineral resources, water resources, or climate change.
