Concentration Option 1: Title

Dissertation in Geology

Requirements

Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 42 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

  • 9 or more cr hrs of 5000-level coursework with a GEOL, GEOB, GEOC, GEOP, or HYDR designation (which includes 5810, Directed Study). 5000-level courses from other programs may be used upon approval of the student's advisory committee.

  • 3 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 6 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5095 (Dissertation).

No Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 60 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

  • 24 or more cr hrs of upper division coursework with a GEOL, GEOB, GEOC, GEOP, or HYDR designation, at least 18 of which must be at the 5000-level (which includes 5810, Directed Study). Courses from other programs may be used upon approval of student’s advisory committee.

  • 4 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 8 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOL 5095 (Dissertation).

Concentration Option 2: Title

Dissertation in Geobiology

Requirements

Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 42 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

  • 9 or more cr hrs of 5000-level coursework with a GEOB, GEOL, GEOC, HYDR, BIOL, or CHEM designation (which includes 5810, Directed Study). 5000-level courses from other programs may be used upon approval of student’s advisory committee.

  • 3 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 6 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5095 (Dissertation).

No Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 60 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

  • 24 or more cr hrs of upper division coursework with a GEOB, GEOL, GEOC, HYDR, BIOL, or CHEM designation, at least 18 of which must be at the 5000-level (which includes 5081, Directed Study). Courses from other programs may be used upon approval of the student's advisory committee.

  • 4 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 8 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOB 5095 (Dissertation).

Concentration Option 3: Title

Dissertation in Geochemistry

Requirements

Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 42 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

  • 9 or more cr hrs of 5000-level coursework with a GEOC designation (which includes 5810, Directed Study). 5000-level courses from other programs may be used upon approval of student’s advisory committee.

  • 3 or more cr hrs of GEOC 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 6 or more cr hrs of GEOC 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOC 5095 (Dissertation).

No Prior Master’s Degree

A minimum of 60 credit hours is required. These hours are distributed as follows:

Dissertation in Geophysics

Requirements

  •  9 or more cr hrs of 5000-level coursework with a GEOP designation (which includes 5810, Directed Study). 5000-level courses from other programs may be used upon approval of student’s advisory committee.

  • 3 or more cr hrs of GEOP 5092 (Graduate Seminar).

  • 6 or more cr hrs of GEOP 5093 (Seminar).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of GEOP 5095 (Dissertation).

  • 24 or more cr hrs of HYDR 5095 (Dissertation).
