Program Description

Minimum of 18 credit hours required to obtain a minor in Music

Minimum credit hours required—18

Restriction: If a student takes more than one minor in the CLASS Department, only six (6) credit hours of one minor may be applied towards another minor.

Completion requirement
Complete ALL of the following Courses:
  • MUSC1210
  • MUSC3000
    AND
    MUSC3000L
  • MUSC3001

Fundamentals of Music or Successful audition,

Music Theory or Successful audition.

Complete ANY of the following Courses:
  • MUSC1110
  • MUSC2420
  • MUSC3009
    OR
    HUMN3009
  • MUSC3011
  • HUMN3011
  • PSYC3042
  • GRMNELECT
  • FRENELECT

Can also take a course from MUSC, HUMN, or THEA courses.

4 credits in Music Performance classes

At least 4 credits should be taken from any of the music performance courses (including special topics music performance courses).


Successful Auditions

If a student auditions out of MUS 1210 or MUS 3000 (MUSC Theory), they should replace them with credits from the “Elective” or “Performance” categories. Up to 4 of these additional credits can be satisfied by performance classes.


Music minors are required to complete a Senior Recital before graduating.
