The Undergraduate Program
At New Mexico Tech, the undergraduate program has two principal objectives:
1) to provide a strong general education in:
a) the humanities and social sciences, and
b) the basic sciences and mathematics; and
2) to offer specialization appropriate to a chosen major field of interest.
Specific requirements for each major are listed under the academic department concerned. It is your responsibility to work out with your advisor a program that meets both the general degree and major specific requirements. In some instances, wide flexibility is allowed in choosing electives; in others, the choice of electives is restricted.
Time Limit
Students have a maximum of ten years to complete their undergraduate coursework under degree requirements in effect at the initial term of matriculation. Students experiencing a break in enrollment who are readmitted to the institution are held to the curricular requirements in place at the term of readmission. Students maintaining continuous enrollment but who do not complete their degree requirements within ten years, may petition the appropriate academic dean to complete their degree requirements under the curricular requirements in effect during the term of admission.
